Day 50: Multiple Matings with Gigi

Curt’s Report. Figan, Faben, Goblin, Humphrey, Fifi, and Gigi un-nested and fed briefly on muguiza before traveling back to Lower Kasakela from LK9. Nope, Mustard, Sprout, and Spray were also present at the nesting site but stayed behind as the group traveled off. Both Faben and Humphrey solicited from Gigi and were unsuccessful. The group scattered apart in Lower Kasakela; Figan and Faben did displays upon rejoining Mike, Fifi, Goblin, and Gigi near the Saidi Trail in Lower Kasakela.

Gigi and Fifi avoided Figan’s long display. During kitota feeding Figan copulated with Gigi. Figan, Faben, Goblin, and Gigi traveled to Camp where they stayed for two hours. Figan groomed with Faben, Gigi, and Gilka, and rested for most of the time. At 1128, the group left Camp and traveled past KK9 where they met Satan (ASR). Forty-five minutes of ngazi feeding preceded travel up Dung Hill.
During feeding on majani, Fifi spontaneously attacked Patti. Figan charged down the tree and stamped Fifi twice on the head. Patti screamed as she chased after Fifi. There were many group waah’s during this incident. Figan copulated with Gigi for the third time of the day, then rested and self-groomed and groomed with Gigi for 1 ¼ hours. At 1436 the group started traveling southeast. Goblin squeaked full-closed-grin to Gigi who first threatened him then hit him. Goblin screamed and avoided as Gigi chased him briefly. Goblin sought reassurance from Figan (no response) and Patti bite-kissed Fifi.
There were distant vocalizations from near Camp; the group changed travel direction and headed back to Camp. Sherry, Jomeo, Miff, and Moeza were present as Figan displayed into Camp. Sherry pant-grunted and bobbed with hair-out, avoided and arm-threatened Figan who charged past. Sherry then copulated with Gigi. As Figan fed on ngazi outside of Camp, Jomeo and Sherry competed for Gigi. Sherry was more persistent and copulated with Gigi. Figan then descended the ngazi tree and copulated with Gigi. Jomeo later copulated with Gigi after the group had traveled to Plum Tree Thicket. Figan, Faben, Gigi, and Goblin left the others and fed on kitota for an hour in Lower Kasakela. They traveled on to the korongo south of Linda where they fed on matunda ya msalasi and majani before we left them at 1900.

Konyagi bottles were emptied as Riss and Busse triumphantly returned to Camp.
ASR Details. Figan copulated four times with Gigi today. Sherry twice and Jomeo once (that were observed). Faben twice persistently solicited from Gigi who ignored him. The attack by Fifi on Patti which Figan broke up was the major ASR of the day. I was also a bit surprised that Sherry “arm-threatened” Figan during a Figan arrival display in Camp.
Nesting Details. Figan, Faben, Gigi, and Goblin fed on majani in a tree at the korongo south of Lower Linda when we left them at 1900 — no nesting behavior seen.
