Day 37: Evered is Very Submissive to Figan

David’s Report.
Atlas (age 7 ) eats “bamboo” (local name: matete). 
Another exciting day with lots of displays. Figan un-nested at Linda Peak and tried some kifumbe, which was very dry and dead. He then walked to the edge of Kasakela and looked down, deciding where to go. He finally made up his mind after some wandering about and hit the muguiza tree at the Kasakela waterfall. He soon left and displayed east of The Peak and went to KK6 stream’s muguiza tree. There he met Pallas and fed for 10 minutes. He then traveled to KK7 where he met Humphrey and a strange to us 2–3 year old male infant. We were there only a short time and did not see a mother (see Stranger Contact).
He worked his way to the Dell where he fed on ngazi and muguiza and where he met Miff. He arrived in Camp by 0910 and was soon joined by Humphrey. Goblin and Patti arrived and by 1000 Hugo had arrived outside of Camp. Lots of grooming. Figan went down the main path a ways to eat mtobogoro fruits and then returned to try to find Humphrey and Hugo. Instead, he found Evered who was bobbing and screaming down and up in submission. Figan charged into Camp and then later charged out and left to the south where he found Gigi, Humphrey, and Nova. He displaced a submissive Humphrey in an ngazi tree. Gilka and Winkle soon arrived, and there was some grooming.
Figan left them and went back to Camp where he displayed four times, with very submissive Evered and Satan present, as were Fifi, Sparrow, and Pallas. Hugo and Figan went to the east to the Dell but Figan soon met up with Melissa, Humphrey, and Satan southeast of the Dell. Melissa left but Satan and Humphrey stayed and they groomed and rested. By 1400 they had walked a ways to KK3 and started eating kitota. At 1420 they started to travel up the hill, going southeast. I lost them at 1430 while they were traveling near KK5. Figan was re-found the next morning after we waited near the waterfall until 1830. Satan and Humphrey also came to Camp.
ASSR Detail: Another exciting day with Evered. After some displays in Camp, Figan went onto the main path to feed. After 15 minutes, he returned to Camp to meet Evered and Hugo. Evered started to bob and Figan charged.
1045 Figan sat within 15 m feeding on his fruits while Evered and Hugo groomed. Fifi arrived and Figan groomed her.
1059 Pant-hoots and screams from the south and Figan charges passed Evered. Evered pant-grunts and bobs.
1103 Satan arrives, prompting Figan to charge upslope. He slaps three banana boxes and Satan full-open squeaks, approaches Figan, and bobs. Evered full-open bobs and screams. Satan full-open presents to Figan, who touches Satan‘s balls.
1104 Figan charges out of Camp to the south. Fifi avoids, but no response by Evered or Hugo.
1105 Figan crosses the stream and he charges, branch-wave and drag past Gigi (barks) and under Evered’s tree who pant-hoots as does Humphrey who is nearby.
1112 Figan hair-out climbs Humphrey’s ngazi tree. Humphrey avoids and leaves pant- grunting. Gilka and Winkle arrive with few ASSR.
1156 Figan hair-out, displays in Camp then leaves camp to the east.
1157 Figan has come back to the periphery of Camp. Others see him, and Evered approaches, pant-grunting and bobbing. Figan charges and chases a screaming full- open and avoiding Satan. Satan, Hugo, Fifi, and Evered leave to the east. Sparrow and Pallas stay in Camp.
1201 Figan displays again past Evered and Satan who waah.
1203 Figan hair-out drums as he is past Satan and Evered. Only Hugo is nearby.
1209 Figan pant-hoot drums. Others respond in the distance.
Later, Figan meets Humphrey. Satan advances at 1254 and both Figan and Humphrey, who are mutually grooming, embrace each other with hair out and full-open screams. Satan approaches and grunts once only and grooms Figan and then Humphrey.
So on the third and the fifth there were many displays by Figan prompted by Evered‘s presence. Evered has not been in Camp since July 21st. He has really been avoiding Camp and Figan. Since the 18th of June (12 days prior to the start of the Figan Follow), he has been seen with Figan only on Days 3, 7, 22, 35, and 37.
Nesting Detail: Humphrey, Satan, and Figan were lost at 1430 and were not found again until 1000 the next morning.
Four-day Summary: Action picking up. The mumanda in Kasakela is almost gone but he visited there three of the four days. There is a little muguiza left, though he visited four different muguiza trees on the morning of the fifth he spent only 5, 5, 5, and 8 minutes feeding in them. He relies heavily on ngazi and kitota for food. He tries kifumbe on Day 37, but that was dried up; the last time they ate it was on Day 24.
Figan and and Faben came and went from each other; no female is up. Patti should be swollen by now (she came down on Day 5 and has not been up since). I do not know why Humphrey and Satan and Figan traveled to KK5 on Day 37. It is great to see Evered after his absence (see ASSR report), though he is very submissive, as is usually Humphrey.
