Day 49: Travel from Mkenke to Rutanga

David’s Report. Figan, Faben, and Gigi headed quickly back toward Camp from SK1 and were eating ngazi on the south side of the stream near Camp when they heard something in Camp. Figan and Faben ran to Camp with hair-out and displayed at Hugo who had bananas. Faben briefly attacked Hugo (contact II) in his display. They were in Camp at 0740. Faben left Gigi and Figan at 0822. Satan, Sherry, and Goblin in Camp.
Sherry pant-hooting. 
Then Figan follows Hugo out of Camp, leaving Gigi. They travel past Plumb Tree Thicket and Figan loses Hugo for 10 minutes. He climbs an ngazi and then descends five minutes later with a full-open-grin scream and whimpers; goes down hill and sees Hugo. I guess he was excited to see Hugo again. They fed on ngazi for an hour and groomed.
Figan rests in camp in anticipation of the final day of the Figan Follow.
Figan left Hugo and returned to Camp, arriving almost 2 ½ hours after he left to find Gigi, Faben, Jomeo, Sherry, and Goblin here. They soon left Camp area and headed to an ngazi tree to the northeast. They arrived there amid great food excitement and were soon joined by Humphrey. Figan had some problems getting Gigi to present and displayed at her several times. They heard waah’s and pant-hoots from the east and soon left in that direction. Sparrow, Athena, and Atlas were left behind. In the next hour, Goblin was attacked and chased twice by a full-closed-grin, squeaking, and barking Gigi during a copulation. Goblin would avoid full-open-grin screaming at Gigi, and Gigi and Goblin both arm-threatened each other.
Fifi travels along the Linda-Rutanga ridge.
The group met up with Fifi and Winkle in KK7 and rested in Bald Soko area for an hour before being led by Figan north to Linda. They were just looking for food as they traveled north very leisurely. Whenever they ran into some food, they would eat. Figan and Faben waited for Gigi repeatedly, but Figan did not mate her. Faben did many times during the day. Goblin was attacked several more times.
They headed north, but by 1706 they started west where they fed in a northern Rutanga korongo, still mainly on the grasslands on the Linda-Rutanga ridge. They headed back at 1749 when Figan and Faben suddenly leapt to the ground displaying silently at first and then Faben pant-hooted. They displayed themselves down the hill westward and southward, returning to the Linda–Rutanga ridge proper.
Jomeo, Sherry, and Mike had split from the group at 1640; perhaps the others had made some vocalization stimulating Figan and Faben’s charges. They all followed and arrived by 1830 in a muguiza tree in LK7. Figan and Faben displayed many times in between. Humphrey, Gigi, Goblin, and Fifi were present. Nope and Mustard later arrived as did Sprout. The group nested at 1930.
ASSR Details. Faben brief attack on Hugo (contact II) in Camp while Hugo had bananas. Many displays by Figan and Faben on route to KK7 to find Fifi and Winkle. Several cases of Gigi (B=1) attacking and chasing a screaming full-open-grin Goblin during Goblin courtship and copulation. Several times Gigi gives Faben a hard time while he is courting her.
Nesting Details. Faben nested at 1920 in an old nest and Figan came out of one muguiza and climbed into Humphrey, Gigi, Nope and Mustard’s tree and ate some more at 1925. We had to leave before he nested. We left at night at 1935 and Faben was the only chimp to have nested.
