Fifty Days in the Life of Figan

Figan Follow Audio — Day 41

Brief Attempt to Hunt Colobus Monkeys

Chimps Find Muhasha Leaves

Date: August 9, 1974
Observers: Curt Busse and Rugema Bambanganya

There was plenty of excitement this afternoon as chimps converged from all directions to feed on a patch of muhasha (Dalbergia sp.) leaves in upper KK3. The muhasha was limited to an area roughly the size of a football field. The chimps would feed there for much of the next three days before abandoning the patch.

A colobus troop was nearby for most of the afternoon, and Figan made a brief attempt to hunt that was quickly thwarted by an adult male monkey.
