David and Curt were delighted one day to discover that Saidi had hacked this new path (albeit slanted) in lower Kasakela valley, parts of which were almost impenetrable. The chimps also used this new trail. download small

Figan was not happy to see this snake, possibly a green mamba, with its head raised while blocking the trail to the waterfall. He stopped fifteen feet from the snake, hoo’ed briefly, then climbed ten feet up a tree and waited for five minutes until the snake moved off. download small
